We Have the Technology

What a time to be alive!

We have made the world flat again. Our continents are our neighborhoods and our oceans no longer keep us apart.
Online social networking is bringing old and new friends together and we are able to share our hopes and dreams with those we love as well as the curious.

After reconnecting with a friend from Japan through facebook, I finally got Skype so we can catch up on the last 16 years! "You changed my life",  he said, "It's amazing what one introduction from you has led to in my life..."

We Baha'is have been networking for a long time- before fb or ms or the www or fidonet! I love making friends all over the world. The more we get to know people and share our stories, the more we realize that the "earth is but one country and mankind its citizens".

+++++

And we have the power!
Our photovoltaic system is finally connected and tomorrow we shall see what the Waimea sun can do!
This go-round, the main infrastructure has been established. More PV panels will be added when I get another pile of savings next year. For now, we have 6 panels, our battery bank (hopefully enough to keep the fridge, fish tanks, a laptop and a few lights running overnight during a blackout), an inverter and a connection into some of the house circuits.

The panels will keep the batteries charged, then feed the circuits that are hooked in, and then feed back to the grid if there is anything left.

Summertime energy prices are rising again. Regular gas is already over $3 in Waimea...making my weekly Prius fillup close to $20 at Costco where it is still $2.93 this week.

Low flow shower head makes it possible to have a warm shower in the morning even after the boys have bathed before me.

Little by little, we are doing our part to reducing our carbon footprint. I want the glaciers of Alaska to still be there when I finally get a chance to cruise up there!

And now the latest adventures of Maru!

I laughed at this cute video! My cats are nothing like Maru. They sleep most of the time.

Maru is everything good about cats. A wonderful companion- totally curious and entertaining! Maru's owner brings out the best in him by playing with him and teaching him tricks.
