Celebrating the Accomplishment

It started out pretty roughly.
And I got an exercise in maternal frustration that showed me where I am in "let go and let God" (not very far...)
But all's well that ends well...at least this chapter.
(If there is any excuse, let's say that I was still reeling from disappointment that Jakob Karr did not win SYTYCD.)

This is Byron's Graduation from Community All-Stars, an after school program to help with life skills. Byron got to Lihue JUST in the nick of time and properly attired- thanks to his brother Steven.

Certificates were awarded after a very nice ceremony and well-timed inspirational speeches.

Afterwards, there was a great reunion (for me) with Brett Gaines, whose daughter caught my eye as she is the spitting image of him when I knew him as a child! Byron's former principal (and now District Superintendent) Bill Arakaki came over to congratulate him too. THEN, Byron treated me to dinner. We went to Sushi Katsu at the Tip Top Restaurant.

We shared uni and soft-shelled crab sushi. I ordered tempura and udon (which I could not finish- GENEROUS portions!) and Byron had the tempura and California roll sushi combo.

At the end, there was plenty to take home to Steven, the hero of the evening.
