Hanapa'a!
After a long "drought" of fresh fish, the halalu and akule are finally back at one of our favorite fishing spots.
Last night #3 son Byron came with me. The fish started to bite at dusk.
I went last night with #1 son Aaron and got almost a bag of fish- mahalo, Aaron!

And we caught enough for ourselves and others until 3AM. The above shots are 2 sides of the same bag. We caught several halalu and the larger akule.
Tonight, we have fish for dinner!

Is that a big zip-lock bag? I'm trying to judge the size of dem fishies.
I'm not a big fish eater.... too much fried moi, and night fish as a kid. Steamed moi/mullet is good. I like fishing, but don't really enjoy eating fish. Wierd huh....

I tend to eat salmon fillets and salmon burgers 2-3 times a week, and never get tired of it. Salmon is an oily fish, chock full of Omega 3 and very good for you.

There is nothing like fresh caught Hawai'ian fish. Yum!
The stuff we get in Washington just does not taste the same. Yuck.
brew- They are large ziplocks. I'm guessing we have a total of 10 lbs of uncleaned fish. I'll count when I clean them and post an update.
Aaron is a good fisherman and last night Byron showed very good abilities too.
Akule and halalu are real staples here - I remember eating 1/2 dry akule the first week I moved to Kauai. It is also a very oily fish and delicious.
One of the things on my "wish list" is a dry box to sun dry fish and fruits in season.

Okay - on Maui, our family friends owned Wakamatsu Fish Market. They used to make some dried, (shoyu-based) marinated akule, and aku. It came in 1/4" thick slices - maybe 4" (depending on the fish). We'd heat it on the grill and it was awesome w/ poi. Forgot about that - "Waka-Fish"! :-)
