This is one time when I would use PhotoShop or something similar. Otherwise I do not like that program -- you can manipulate too many things. Really digital image manipulation rather than photographic skills.
Have you looked at PhotoShop Elements? Low price and pretty decent.
wafan, I did a lot of darkroom work back in the day and I see ps as less hassle and non carcinogenic darkroom work. To me, photography is both "film" and "print" work.

Yeah- I guess they could use some enhancing. It was overcast.

It is not that PS is a bad program. I just do not think it really is photography. More in line with digital image manipulation.
To me, photography happens in the camera not in a computer.

I agree with the print work portion. It is the "EFX" PS does that I mostly disagree. Heck, I teach it in my photo classes!
But, I expect the kids to have a minimal mastery with the camera first. PS can only do so much to fix what is really just a bad photo.
