Instant Ohana
Today was a family day. But not in the usual sense.
My day started at 6AM with an early start to catch the Redskins game with long-time Redskins season ticket holder SonnyRules from the ExtremeSkins message board.
You may remember our get-together last year. It was the first time I got to watch a game with a "real" Redskins fan!
This year we met again at JJ's Broiler. His wife May Ling is a Ravens fan so we got a table where all of us could watch monitors of our teams playing. It was like a family reunion. We exchanged some presents and picked up right where we left off last year- and enjoyed a Redskins WIN (Hip hip, Hooray!) to boot! Next year we'll do it again.
Afterwards, they went to enjoy the Coconut Festival and I headed to ProfessionNail to get my special football season pedicure and manicure.
This time, I had them combine the green UH logo and the burgundy and gold curly R for the Redskins.
After my weekly shopping at Costco, I joined my fellow Baha'is and friends and family at the Riveras' house in Lawai to welcome the newest member of our Ohana- Linda O'Dell.
Linda has come to Kauai from Texas as a Baha'i homefront pioneer to help us organize and systematize our activities to grow and expand our services to our community.
What a trooper! She willingly tried all the new foods we put before her- including chili pepper ahi poke and Portuguese bean soup!
There was a delicious cake to celebrate Linda's arrival as well as three recent birthdays from among the group.
I love it- wherever you go in this world, people can enjoy the things they love - whether it be a football team or sharing of the spirit - and find an instant ohana- an instant family- of people who share in that love!
