Saturday... Trip Day

There must be a Divine Wisdom somewhere that made me schedule my trip to Portland several months ago for this Saturday. The $288 Roundtrip fare had a lot to do with it...

But if sacrifice of the things you love means anything, it should be a good day for those things I love:

The UH Warriors are going to scrimmage Saturday on Kauai - just as I have to check in for my flight.

Saturday night, Second Nature will perform at the KCC Performing Arts Center in Band Champs II for the right to go on to the CHAMPS in Honolulu on April 24.

Here they are signing up at Waimea High; Byron performing in last year's Band Champs; and new lead singer Kalama and Byron with Jamie Rowe after the Waimea Culture Night performance with Halau Hula O Hali'ileo.

Mahalo to Uncle Tom Moffatt for believing in our kids and giving them a chance to live their dreams. Mahalo to Burger King for making it affordable to watch the bands perform!

I sure hope someone gets me a tee shirt! (hint hint!)

Keep up with the Kauai Band Champs on the Band Champ facebook page and catch all the action on STREAMING VIDEO LIVE at 7:30pm on Saturday night.

Second Nature at the Waimea Town Celebration

Second Nature (enhanced version) performed on Friday night at the Waimea Town Celebration. They followed the Makaha Sons (Bruddah Iz and his older brother Skippy were part of this wonderful group- whom we (East of Midnight) performed with back in the 70's)

It was a chilly night for Waimea!

The Makaha Sons' dancers kept warm between numbers while Second Nature tuned up and I caught a quick howdy with emcee (and fellow Rotarian) Rhoda Libre.

Ukuleleboi tuned up his iPhone (yes- that was his instrument!) and the singers warmed up with a pule. Then they set up on stage while Rhoda made the last announcements of the night.

Did I mention it was chilly that night? Here is fellow band mom Neoma, Auntie Jenny and my friend Melanie and crew all bundled up!
A great time was had by all!

Surprise!

Tonight we surprised my youngest son Byron with a surprise party at his hula practice.

I got a chantilly cake from Thrifty Mart (light as a feather!) and our friend Linda O'Dell picked up and heated pizzas from Costco. Brother Steven helped me with the beverages and after Byron got over the shock, he helped serve everyone.

Here is Byron with long-time friend Kalama, Auntie Linda O'Dell, Auntie Margaret and brother Steven.

Of course, we had to take the "who's taller" picture. I no mo chance!

Happy 18th, Byron!

DJ, Kalama and Byron - Second Nature - chillin in the garage at Pakala... doin' what they love to do best.

During the UH-Navy game a few weeks ago, I was looking for our friend Kelly from Waimea Valley who is a Navy cadet and cheerleader!. She was not at that game but her dad just shared pix of her from an earlier game.

See if you can spot her (like Waldo) at the Navy vs Army Football Game this Saturday at 9 or 9:30 am on CBS.  She has a new uniform for this game, so it will look a little different.
GO, KELLY!
